As we have unfortunately experienced in the US lately, natural disasters can cause untold destruction, and more importantly, put your life at risk. The question we need to ask ourselves, then, is, how prepared am I for a natural disaster? Would I be ready to leave at a moment’s notice?

If you have not already discussed with your loved ones what to do in an emergency situation, perhaps now is a good time. Preparing ahead for a possible disaster can save lives and prevent a bad situation from becoming an impossible one. So, what are some ways you can be ready for a natural disaster?
First, prepare an emergency go bag and keep it in a place that you can access quickly. The bag should contain supplies to last for around 3 days. Besides food and water, you would want to include clean clothes, basic toiletries, copies of important documents, extra medication if needed, and some cash.
Besides preparing to leave your home in an emergency it is also a good idea to think about what you would need if you had to stay inside your home. Keep the pantry stocked with nonperishable food items and extra supplies of water.
Discuss with your household what to do if a sudden disaster strikes. Make sure everyone is familiar with emergency disaster routes and meet-up locations. These locations and directions may change depending on the disaster, so try to prepare for different types of scenarios. Remember that communication can sometimes be affected during a disaster, so having decided on these matters ahead, will be of great benefit.
