Unless you have little ones or older relatives living in your home, you likely have not given a whole lot of thought to the safety hazard that an ordinary set of stairs can prove to be. Even a stairway with 2-3 steps can cause a lot of harm if the circumstances are just right. So what can you do to ensure that the stairways in your home or business don’t turn out to be a safety hazard?
Keep them in good condition. One thing that can cause problems is if not all steps in the stairway are equal heights and textures. Especially if you have a lot of visitors that are not used to your stairs, even one step that’s unusual can pose a threat of being a tripping hazard. Take some time to examine the details of your stairway. Are there any loose stairs? If carpeted, are there any snags or tears on the carpet? A simple inspection like this can do a lot of good.
