With living expenses constantly on the rise, we may be forced to look for additional ways to cut down on our household bills. As electricity is often one of the bigger monthly expenses, is there anything we can do to reduce the amount of electricity we consume? Here are a few small changes you can make to help use less electricity in your home:

Turn off your computer when you are not using it. If this is not possible, at least try to switch off the monitor. Laptops use less electricity than desktop computers, so if you have the choice, try to use your laptop.

Cell phone and laptop chargers consume electricity even when they are not charging a device, so think about unplugging them when you have finished charging your electronics.

Be mindful of switching off lights in rooms you are not using. Remember, every little helps.

If you need to replace any appliances or electronic items, try to replace them with ENERGY STAR-rated ones, as these will really help to reduce electricity consumption, especially with appliances that are constantly running.

Did you know that the refrigerator will use a lot less energy if it is positioned close to a heat vent, stove, or dishwasher? Even direct sunlight will impact its energy efficiency, so this is something to think about.

As you can see, these are all small changes we can make to help lower energy consumption in our homes, and as we’ve mentioned, every little helps.
