Not everyone can afford a costly advanced security system for their homes, but perhaps you have a few valuable items at home that you want to keep out of reach of thieving hands while you are not at home. So, here are a few simple, old-fashioned suggestions to keep your treasures out of sight:

Criminals who break into homes want to do so without drawing attention to themselves, so they want to be in and out quickly. When deciding the best place to hide your valuables, think about the places that would take a long time to search through, like storage boxes of old clothing or decorating supplies that you keep in your garage, etc. If you have a collection of books, you could also hollow one out and keep items in there.

Another unlikely place to keep valuables is the trash can, underneath the trash bag. After all, who would want to go through someone’s trash in the unlikely event that something of value is hidden there? The inside of a plant pot is another good hiding place – just make sure that your valuables are kept in a protective cover.

Finally, some people like to install a safe in their homes. If you are thinking about doing this, you may want to consider a floor safe instead of a wall safe, as they are much harder to remove.

If you are going to be away from home and are worried about your valuables, why not try a few of these simple old-fashioned suggestions?
